RESULT - 1st XI 145 for 2 (Trevor Reynolds 59, Robert Sigsworth 30
not out) beat Burnt Yates 1sts (Stephen Burn 3 wickets for 13, Sam Porter 3
wickets for 25) by 8 wickets. Raskelf finished off the season with a victory
to seal top spot in division 3.
2nd XI 154
for 5 (Brian Bowes 62, Stuart Lunn 32, Tony Fox 30) beat Little Ribston 1sts
143 all out (John Wilson 4 for 54) by 11 runs. Not to be outdone by 1st team
promotion, Raskelf 2nds also finished off the season with a win and a mid-table
position confirmed.
Sat
3rd September
RESULT - 1st XI 102 for 3 (Robert Sigsworth 62 not out) beat
Scotton 1sts (Matthew Sigsworth 3 wickets for 12 runs) by 7 wickets.
Raskelf completed another emphatic win over Scotton to continue their lead at
the top of division 3 by 2 points with one game left.
2nd XI 96 all out
(Sam Davill 37) lost to Blubberhouses 2nds 289 for 5 by 193 runs.
Raskelf 2nds travelled to Blubberhouses with a considerably weakened side due
several clashing commitments from our regular players.
Blubberhouses posted an enormous total but some of Raskelf’s juniors did
us proud with Austin Baker snatching 2 wickets for 59 runs
and Chris Scurr getting one wicket for 25,
not forgetting senior Steve Webster getting his first two wickets for Raskelf.
Raskelf came out to try and climb a mountain but with the exception of Sam Davill
(37 runs),
no one really got going and Raskelf fell well short of the required total.
AUGUST
2011
Sat
27th August
RESULT - 1st XI vs Ouseburn 2nds –match abandoned due
to inclement weather.
Raskelf 1sts stay clear at the top of division three with just 2 games to play.
2nd
XI 88 for 0 (Robert Galtrey 48 not out, Brian Bowes 34 not out) beat Bishop
Thornton 2nds 87 for 9
(Sam Davill 5 for 27, John Wilson 3 for 20) by 10 wickets.
Raskelf 2nds completely outplayed a weak Bishop Thornton side by knocking off
a poor score
with nearly 20 overs left to play.
Thornton batted first and collapsed to 46 for 8 in just 18 overs thanks to some
superb
bowling from Sam Davill (5 for 27), John Wilson (3 for 20) and Stuart Lunn (10
overs, 6 maidens for 10 runs).
Raskelf came out to bat and knocked off the score without losing a wicket thanks
to an unbroken stand
between Rob Galtrey (48 not out) and Brian Bowes (34 not out).
Sat
20th August
FIXTURE - 1st XI 177 for 9 (Trevor Reynolds 59, Matthew Sigsworth
38) beat Kirkby Malzeard 1sts 157 all out
(Chris Brown 4 for 45, Matthew Hawkhead 3 for 32) by 20 runs.
Raskelf travelled to Kirkby Malzeard 1sts this weekend and continued their winning
ways to remain clear at the top of division three.
Raskelf batted first and posted a challenging total of 177 with contributions
from Trevor Reynolds (59) and Matthew Sigsworth (38).
Malzeard were never in the hunt as they fell short by 20 runs, pick of the bowlers
was Chris Brown with 4 for 46 runs.
Second team vice–captain, Matthew Hawkhead, finally persuaded to play
in the firsts,
showed his future potential with 3 for 32.
2nd XI 90 for 2
(Brian Bowes 43 not out) beat Darley 2nds 89 all out (Sam Davill 3 for 16) by
8 wickets.
Raskelf
2nds consolidated their mid-table position by demolishing Darley 2nds,
who showed why they are second from bottom. Darley batted first and couldn’t
cope with opening bowlers
Sam Davill (3 for 16) and John Wilson (2 for 26).
At the end they managed a lowly 89 runs and that was with Raskelf missing star
bowlers,
on holiday and playing for the 1sts. Raskelf made short work by knocking off
the runs with only two
wickets down and several overs to spare. Old faithful, Brian Bowes posted his
usual 43 not out ably helped with that other old faithful, Tony Fox, falling
just short of a 30 with 27.
Sat
13th August
FIXTURE - 1st XI 159 for 4 (Matthew Sigsworth 75, Robert Sigsworth
68) beat Bolton Abbey 1sts 158 for 6
(Chris Brown 3 for 36) by 6 wickets. Raskelf entertained Bolton Abbey 1sts this
weekend in a top of the table clash.
Abbey won the toss and surprisingly elected to bat on a ground and pitch they
didn’t know and
had no idea what a winning total would be. Raskelf bowled well and restricted
them to just 158 for 6,
a ‘well below par score’ for this season at Raskelf. Pick of the
bowlers was Chris Brown with his 3 for 36.
Raskelf came out to bat and had an initial scare losing their first wicket with
the score on just 2.
But Matthew Sigsworth (75) and Robert Sigsworth (68) steadied the ship taking
the score to 130 for 1 with 9 overs left.
An easy victory was on the cards, but Raskelf conspired to almost throw it away,
as the thought of going clear at the top, led to a mini collapse.
Raskelf lost 3 wickets getting the last 30 runs and almost used up the remaining
overs.
Fortunately they won by 6 wickets with 3 balls to spare to go 2 points clear
at the top of the league.
2nd XI 191 for 3 (Matthew Goddard 80, Brian Bowes 51) beat Bolton Abbey
2nds 190 for 7
(Peter Sweet 4 for 14) by 7 wickets. Raskelf 2nds completed the ‘white-wash’
of Bolton Abbey
with a good victory away from home. Abbey batted first and thanks to some excellent
bowling from Pete Sweet
(4 for 15 off 12 overs, including a ‘hat-trick’), they were restricted
to 190 in their 45 overs.
Raskelf made short work of the Abbey total only losing 3 wickets and having
several overs remaining.
Raskelf 2nds have now consolidated their position in the mid-table with 4 games
remaining

JULY 2011
Sat
30th July
RESULT - 1st XI 206 for 9 (Matthew Sigsworth 51, Sam Porter
39) beat Masham 2nds 95 all out by 111 runs.
Raskelf crushed Masham as they eased into top spot of the league.
Raskelf batted first and despite losing 9 wickets managed to reach 206 runs
thanks to Matthew Sigsworth (51)
and Sam porter (39). Masham came out to bat and were never in it,
as the Raskelf prevented them form reaching even half the target before they
were all dismissed.
2nd XI 116 all out (Matthew Goddard 59) lost to Helperby 2nds 134 for
9 (Matthew Hawkhead 4 for 25) by 18 runs.
In a strange game, Raskelf had Helperby 34 for 7 with some superb bowling by
Matthew Hawkhead (4 for 25 off 12 overs)
and John Wilson (2 for 16 off 12 overs), but couldn’t capitalise as Helperby
managed to get 134 runs.
When Raskelf came out to bat, a win seemed easy, chasing such a small total
and as the first wicket
didn’t fall until the total was 43 a victory was on the cards. But, apart
from Matthew Goddard (59)
only one other person got in to double figures as Raskelf collapsed 18 runs
short of the total.

Sat
23rd July
RESULT - 1st XI 162 for 5 (Robert Sigsworth 69, Spencer Brown
48) beat Hampsthwaite 2nds 161 for 6 by 5 wickets. Raskelf found little trouble
against Hampsthwaite on Saturday. Hampsthwiate batted first and after losing
the first wicket to a silly run out, they settled down continuing to score in
excess of 3 runs an over with plenty of wickets in hand. Frugal bowling from
Sam Porter (0 for 11 off 7 overs) and Robert Sigsworth (1 for 28 off 10 overs)
kept the Hamspthwaite batsmen in check. Unable to ‘up the run rate' they
lost a further 3 wickets to run outs to post a low total of 161 on such a good
wicket. Raskelf came out to bat losing an early wicket, but thanks to a superb
stand of over 100 between Rob Sigsworth (69) and Spencer Brown (48), they cruised
past the total with 8 overs to spare. This was not without a slight scare losing
4 wickets getting the last 30 runs.

Raskelf cruised past Killinghall on Saturday to maintain their assault on the
top slot of the league.
2nd XI 194
for 6 (Brian Bowes 41, Matthew Goddard 41, Matthew Hawkhead 30)
lost to Goldsborough 2nds 197 for three by 7 wickets.
Raskelf travelled to league topping Goldsborough on Saturday,
they batted first and set a good total but the opposition proved too strong
for the travellers
as they cruised past the total with several overs to spare.

beat Rainton 1sts 255 all out (Sam Porter 3 wickets for 52) by 1 run.
Raskelf had the better of a nail biting match against 2nd placed Rainton on
Saturday
where they scraped home by just 1 run to take all the points.
2nd XI 124 all out (Matthew Hawkhead 33) lost to Rainton 2nds 131 all out
(Peter Sweet 4 for 41, Matthew Hawkhead 3 for 29) by 7 runs.
The position was reversed as Rainton 2nds got the better of Raskelf in a close
match winning by just 7 runs.
JUNE 2011

RESULT -Pilmoor vs New Earswick, away - lost
Sat
25th June
RESULT -1st XI 186 for 5 (Hamish Taylor 80 not out) beat Burnt
Yates 1sts 184 for 8 (Stephen Burn 3 wickets for 41)
by 5 wickets.
Raskelf entertained
Burnt Yates, with a side weakened through holidays, exams, injuries and ‘other
events’.
The opposition batted first and the top order had little difficulty with the
Raskelf attack,
at one point they looked like getting over 250 runs being 134 for 1 off about
30 overs.
Once the 2nd wicket fell, Yates soon showed why they are in the bottom half
of the table
as wickets fell rapidly and they had to hold on for at point at the end.
Raskelf came out to bat with the top order failing leaving Hamish Taylor to
get his maiden
50 for the firsts with a supreme 80 not out. Hamish was ably supported by Spencer
Brown (28)
and Gary Duckwith (26 not out). In the end an easy victory with 10 overs to
spare. Well done Hamish.
2nd XI 158 for 9 (Tony Fox 62) beat Litle Ribston 1sts 100 all out (Peter
Sweet 5 for 21,
Matthew Hawkhead 3 for 15) by 58 runs.
Raskelf batted
first and had a middle order crisis going from 50 for no wicket to 78 for 8.
Fortunately, the experienced Tony Fox saved the day with an elegant 62 runs
to take Raskelf to 158.
Ribston came out to bat and didn’t show much resistance to the guile of
Peter Sweet (5 for 21),
playing with a toe injury (that we all know about) and the grit of Matthew Hawkhead
(3 for 15),
playing with a finger injury (that we all know about). Raskelf took all 6 points
quite easily in the end.

Sat
18th June
RESULT -1st XI 78 for 6 (Adam Nabbs 33 not out) beat Scotton
75 all out (Chris Brown 4 for 4 wickets)
by 4 wickets.
Raskelf travelled to Scotton to find themselves playing on the worst wicket
they had seen all season.
With the ball taking chunks out of the pitch, they wiped the Scotton batsmen
out for just 75 runs.
An easy victory seemed on the cards but the Raskelf batsmen had equal difficulty
losing 5 wickets for just 24 runs
with several batsmen being hit on the head from balls jumping off a length.
Adam Nabbs (33 not out) and Hamish Taylor (25) showed the way, giving Raskelf
a win by 4 wickets.
2nd XI 174 all out (Matthew Goddard 50, Brian Bowes 32) lost to Blubberhouses
2nds 184 for 6 by 10 runs.
In a very close game which could have gone either way,
Blubberhouses batted first and were held to just 47 for 2 off the first 24 overs
with excellent bowling from Simon Webster (12 overs, 17 runs for 1 wicket) and
John Wilson (12 overs, 29 for 1 wicket).
With wickets in hand, the Blubberhouse middle order pushed their score to 184
before the overs ran out.
Raskelf came out to bat and got off to a steady start with a second wicket stand
of over 50 runs
between Rob Galtrey (29) and Brian Bowes (32).
Rob was unluckily run out when the quick thinking opposing player, having displaced
the bails before he had the ball,
lifted out a stump and held the ball against it.
The unfortunate Rob didn’t ground his bat, not realising that it constituted
a valid run out.
Raskelf continued to lose touch with the required rate, as wickets fell at regular
intervals.
Matthew Goddard (50) came into bat and smashed the ball to all parts, with help
from John Wilson (29)
taking the asking rate from over 7 runs an over to less than 4. With just 14
runs required,
4 overs left and 2 wickets in hand, Raskelf were now favourites, but a suicidal
run from John led to his run out
and then Matthew was caught in the deep falling short by just 10 runs.
